Create a configuration set from one or more OpenTelemetry Collector configuration files so you can assign the same desired configuration to supported collectors.
Create a configuration set when you want agent management to store a complete desired OTel Collector configuration that you can assign to one or more collectors. A configuration set can contain one or more files. Each assigned collector receives all files in the set.
After you create a configuration set, you cannot edit its uploaded configuration files in agent management. To change an uploaded file, replace the configuration set and upload changed files. Replacing creates a new named configuration set and moves existing collector assignments from the old set to the new set.
You can view available configuration sets and their deployment status in the Configuration Sets tab. The deployment status describes the state of the configuration set across its assigned collectors.
Before you create a configuration set, make sure that the following conditions are met:
- OTel Collectors management is enabled in Splunk Enterprise.
- You have a complete OTel Collector configuration ready to upload as one or more files.
- Log in to Splunk Enterprise, select the settings icon (
), and then, under the Distributed Environment section, select Agent management.
- From the left menu, select the OTel Collectors view.
- Select the Configuration Sets tab.
- If the list is empty, select Create Configuration Set. If there is at least one configuration set in the list, select .
- In the Create Configuration Set window, enter a name in the Name field.
Use a name that helps you identify the environment, workload, or collector group that needs this desired configuration.
- (Optional) Enter a description in the Description field.
- In the Files area, select or drag one or more OTel Collector configuration files that you want to include in the configuration set.
A configuration set can contain a single file or multiple files. Files can be in any format, but agent management previews file contents only for files that contain valid UTF-8 encoding (for example YAML files). Upload only the files that are part of the desired OTel Collector configuration.
Note:
Configuration sets have the following limits:
- The total raw body size across all files in one configuration set can't exceed 2 MiB (2,097,152 bytes). This limit applies to the whole configuration set, not to each uploaded file.
- One configuration set can contain up to 1000 files.
- The configuration set name can be up to 2 MiB.
- The configuration set description can be up to 2 MiB.
- Each uploaded file name can be up to 8 KiB (8192 bytes).
- Select Save.
The configuration set is added to the list on the Configuration Sets tab. Select the configuration set ID to open the details page. On the Details tab, you can review configuration set details, deployment status, and uploaded files. In the Files section, expand a file to preview its contents. Configuration file contents are view only. Files that contain invalid UTF-8 encoding are stored in the configuration set but are not displayed in the preview.
The configuration set is created and available for assignment. Until you assign collectors to the configuration set, the Deployment status column shows Unassigned.
Assign the configuration set to OTel Collector agents that support remote configuration. See Assign a configuration set to OpenTelemetry Collectors.
