The AI Assistant usage dashboard offers insights into prompt activity, helping you monitor usage, track trends, and identify key skills and users across your Splunk Cloud Platform deployment.
The AI Assistant usage dashboard in the Cloud Monitoring Console (CMC) provides a unified view of AI Assistant prompt activity across your Splunk Cloud Platform deployment. You can use this dashboard to:

Monitor prompt usage across all your Splunk AI Assistants, splitting the data by individual assistant, specific AI prompt skill, and users.

Track activity and adoption trends over time to understand how users integrate AI Assistants into your organization's workflows.

Quickly identify top skills and users to understand areas of high value and potential training needs.
What are Splunk AI Assistants?
Splunk AI Assistants are generative AI tools that let you interact with Splunk products and analyze data using natural language. You can use AI Assistants to generate and explain SPL queries, streamline security operations, accelerate data analysis, and boost overall productivity. Requirements
To view AI Assistant usage data requires the following:

AI Assistant for SPL: You must have the AI Assistant for SPL app version 1.3.1 or higher. For installation instructions, see Install a public app from Splunkbase.

AI Assistant in Search & Reporting: You must have the AI Assistant for SPL app version 1.3.1 or higher. See Install a public app from Splunkbase. Requires Splunk Cloud Platform 10.1 or higher. For Splunk Cloud Platform version upgrade, contact Splunk Support.

AI Assistant in Security: You must have Splunk Enterprise Security version 8.2 or higher. See Install a public app from Splunkbase. For more information, see Deploy and upgrade Splunk Enterprise Security. Requires Security AI Assistant license. For details, contact your account representative.
Access the AI Assistant Usage dashboard
To access the AI Assistant usage dashboard:
- In Splunk Web, select Cloud Monitoring Console.
- Select License Usage and then AI Assistant.
About AI Assistant usage data
AI Assistants generate usage data when you interact with them. The AI Assistant usage dashboard shows metrics on the number of prompts used, top users, and the most used prompt skills.
The AI Assistant usage dashboard shows metrics for the following prompt skills:

Write SPL: The AI Assistant writes an SPL query for you based on a natural language prompt.

Explain SPL: Ask the AI assistant to explain an existing SPL query so you can understand what it does.

Tell me about: Query Splunk documentation with natural language by asking the AI assistant a question.
Review AI Assistant usage dashboard panels
The AI Assistant usage dashboard includes the following panels that provide insight into prompt activity:

Daily usage summary |
Shows AI Assistant prompt usage for the current day based on the user time zone setting in Splunk Web. Also shows the trending percentage change in prompt usage over the past week. Use these dashboard panels to evaluate daily AI Assistant usage and identify notable short-term patterns and deviations in usage. |
AI Assistant prompt usage |
Shows AI assistant prompt usage over a selected time range, from hours to months. Filter prompt usage data for each assistant by skills and users. Use this panel to evaluate prompt usage data for each assistant over various time periods. Select “Chart type” to view data by column or stacked column. |
Total Cumulative Prompt Usage |
These panels show the total historical number of prompts used for each AI Assistant, skill type, and top 10 users across all AI Assistants. Use this view to quickly evaluate the total volume of AI Assistant interactions across your deployment, as follows: Cumulative Usage by AI Assistant: This panel shows the total number of prompts used on each individual AI Assistant. Use this panel to compare activity levels of the different AI Assistants. Cumulative Usage by Skill Type: This panel shows the total number of prompts used for each skill type. This insight can help administrators understand which specific AI Assistant functionalities users most frequently access and how they gain value from them. Top 10 Users: This panel identifies the users who have generated the highest number of AI Assistant prompts. This can help you identify power users, potential champions, and areas where additional user support or training might be beneficial. |
