Promotion job states
Review common promotion job states and the actions you can take for each state.
States and actions
Promotion job states show whether a job is waiting, processing data, paused, finished, or stopped. Use the state to decide whether to monitor, pause, resume, cancel, retry, or inspect the promoted dataset.
Before processing starts
- Pending or queued
- The promotion job is waiting for capacity or waiting to start. Data is not promoted until the job transitions to a processing state. Cancel or delete the job if the action is available.
While processing data
- Running or active
- The promotion job is processing data. Streaming jobs can remain active while they continue to promote matching data. Monitor progress and volume. Pause, resume, cancel, or delete the job where supported.
Pause and resume states
- Pausing
- The system is processing a pause request for a streaming job. Refresh or reopen the job until it reaches paused or returns an error.
- Paused
- A streaming promotion job is temporarily stopped without being canceled. Resume, cancel, or delete the job where supported.
- Resuming
- The system is processing a resume request for a paused streaming job. Refresh or reopen the job until it reaches active or returns an error.
Cancel states
- Canceling
- The system is processing a cancel request. Refresh or reopen the job until it reaches canceled or returns an error.
- Canceled
- The promotion job was permanently stopped. Canceling a job does not delete the promoted dataset. Review details or delete the job record where supported.
Finished states
- Completed
- The promotion job finished and created the promoted dataset. Search the promoted dataset or update retention and sharing settings.
- Completed with errors
- The promotion job finished, but one or more records, fields, or operations reported errors. Review the job details and error messages before relying on the promoted dataset.
Unsuccessful states
- Failed
- The promotion job did not complete successfully. Review state information or the error message, retry, recover, or contact an administrator.
- Stopped
- The promotion job was stopped before it completed. Review the reason, then restart or create a new promotion if appropriate.
