A license rule defines how your applications use your Splunk AppDynamics licenses. License rules can help reduce consumption by allocating more units to high-consuming applications and servers.

Splunk AppDynamics provides an Infrastructure-based License (IBL) model and an Agent-based License (ABL) model. You use the Controller Tenant UI for observing and managing licenses, which displays differently according to the type of licenses you purchased. See Licensing.

• IBL model- displays usage data based on a unified package metering unit.
• ABL model- displays data based on an agent metering unit.
