System requirements

Splunk Enterprise supports workload management on Linux operating systems only.

Linux kernel

Splunk Enterprise version 9.0 and higher requires Linux kernel version 3.x or higher. For more information on supported Linux kernel versions for Splunk Enterprise, see Supported operating systems in the Installation Manual.

Supported Linux distributions

Workload management is supported on all Linux distributions that support Splunk Enterprise 9.4.0. For a list of supported Linux distributions, see System requirements for use of Splunk Enterprise on-premises.

Supported cgroups version

Splunk Enterprise 9.4 and higher supports cgroups v2 for workload management on all Linux Operating Systems that use cgroups v2 by default, including:

  • RHEL 9
  • Ubuntu 22
  • AL2023.
Note: Splunk Enterprise version 9.4 and higher is enabled by default to detect and automatically switch to cgroups v2 on Linux operating systems that use cgroups v2.

Systemd version

Workload management requires systemd version 219 or higher.

Note: Systemd is not a mandatory requirement, but if systemd is running on your Linux instance, it must be version 219 or higher.
