Edit business journey milestones

Create a business journey to view a visual representation of a specific business transaction.

After you create a business journey, you can add, edit, and delete the milestones in each journey.

Edit a milestone

Follow these steps to update the milestones in your business journey.

  1. From the business journey's landing page, select Edit.

  2. Select a business journey milestone to open the milestone configuration panel. The first milestone is required, but additional milestones are optional.

  3. Update the APM Service/RUM Application field with a service or application.

  4. Update the following fields to link the milestone to relevant events or actions:

    1. Event Name: The business workflow name, for example, AddtoCart. The event can vary depending on whether you have a RUM or APM event. This is a RUM span or APM business transaction.

    2. Correlation ID: The primary key for the event, for example, cartId.

  5. (Optional) Add a filter to narrow results to a specific value, such as a specific tag or endpoint.

  6. (Optional) Add tracked attributes to specify the custom event or span attribute for your milestone. For example, you can set a specific target for a click event.

  7. Select Save Draft to save your edits, or select Save and Activate to save the journey.

Understand business journey milestones

Once you save your journey, select a journey from the Business Journeys page to view metrics for each of the milestones in your business journey. Each milestone has the following metrics:

  • Count: Number of individual users engaged with step

  • Drop-offs: Number of individual users who did not proceed from this step

  • Error rate: Percent of events with errors

Select a milestone to view:

  • Performance Details tab: understand key trends such as the conversion rate from the first milestone in the journey to the selected milestone, transition time, and errors that occurred at the selected milestone.

  • Events tab: View the specific events associated with the milestone, as well as specific error details and session IDs to facilitate troubleshooting.
