Prerequisites

This topic describes the prerequisites for installing the Splunk Remote Upgrader for Windows.

Note the following system requirements:

• ​To install the Remote Upgrader for Windows Universal Forwarders, you must be able to run it as a local Windows Administrator. See Install the Remote Upgrader for Windows Universal Forwarders​ and run it as a specific user and group for more information about the specific commands.​

• The Remote Upgrader must run as Local System or Local Admin in order to install MSI on Windows.

Note the following versioning conventions:

• ​The Remote Upgrader for Windows Universal Forwarders is only supported on Windows.​

• ​The Remote Upgrader for Windows Universal Forwarders is supported on universal forwarder version 9.0 and higher. The oldest version from which you can upgrade your universal forwarder using the remote upgrader is 8.0.​

• ​The Remote Upgrader for Windows Universal Forwarders needs to be installed in each host that runs your universal forwarders.​

• ​The Remote Upgrader for Windows Universal Forwarders only supports universal forwarders signed with x509 certificates. The x509 signature file (.sig file) is available in splunk.com for all 9.0.0 universal forwarder packages and later. See ​Signature validation​ for more information.​

Windows versions were verified with default PowerShell and .Net Framework versions shipped with Windows. Ideally these versions must be equal or higher than the default versions in the following table, otherwise the remote upgrader may not work properly.

Only the following Windows 64 bit versions are supported.
