Splunk

AWS Kinesis Data Firehose

詳細は、『Splunk Add-on for Amazon Kinesis Firehose』マニュアルの「Splunk Cloud PlatformデプロイへのSplunk Add-on for Amazon Kinesis Firehoseのインストールと設定」を参照してください。

Edge Processor

Ingest Processor

Splunk Cloud Platform

Search

Machine Data Lake search

Machine Data Lake is a Splunk Cloud Platform capability that lands, catalogs, searches, and promotes supported machine data through managed workflows.

You can run focused SPL2 searches against supported raw datasets and search promoted Analytics Tables. Machine Data Lake raw-data search uses federation infrastructure, but Machine Data Lake is not an third party federated data store.

Machine Data Lake availability and supported workflows depend on the cloud provider, region, environment configuration, and enabled services.

For more information, see Get started with Machine Data Lake in the Land data in Machine Data Lake manual.

Federated search for third-party data stores

Federated search for third-party data stores enables you to search and analyze data residing in cloud object stores, data lakes, data warehouses, and archived Splunk data without ingesting it into your Splunk Cloud Platform environment.

Federated search for third party data stores is configured and managed through the Data Management app, which provides a unified interface for creating connections, defining datasets, routing data via pipelines, and running federated searches using SPL2.

For more information, see Overview of the federated search options for the Splunk platform in the Federated Search manual.

Supported data stores

Data Store Description
Amazon S3 Search data in Amazon S3 buckets.
Microsoft Azure Blob Storage Search data stored in Azure Blob Storage containers.
Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2) Search data in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 accounts.
Azure Databricks Search data managed by Azure Databricks via Unity Catalog and Delta Sharing.
Snowflake Search data in Snowflake tables and views.
Dynamic Data Self-Storage (DDSS) Search aged Splunk data exported to your self-storage destination, without restoring it.

For file-based data stores, supported formats include Parquet, JSON, and CSV.

Dynamic Data Self-Storage data can be searched in place through a supported federated-search path without restoring it to Splunk indexes.

To search third-party data, you define the schema of your datasets using one of the following methods:

  • Connect a catalog: Connect to an existing metadata catalog such as an Apache Iceberg REST catalog, AWS Glue Data Catalog, or Unity Catalog (Delta Sharing) to automatically discover and register dataset schemas.

  • Crawler: Use the built-in crawler to automatically infer schema from data in your cloud object stores. The crawler discovers partitions and infers field types for supported formats (Parquet, JSON, CSV).

  • Manual schema entry: Manually define dataset schemas when catalog or crawler options are not applicable.

When you route data through Edge Processor (EP) or Ingest Processor (IP) to Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, or Azure Data Lake Storage, the Data Management app automatically catalogs the data and creates a dataset that you can later search using federated search. The routed data must meet the applicable format, schema, and permission requirements.

Searches of third party data stores use SPL2. Legacy sdselect queries can continue to run against existing legacy federated indexes with a deprecation warning, but new federated searches should use SPL2.

Availability is subject to cloud-provider support, regional availability, service limits, and environment configuration. For current Federated Search included-capacity amounts, weighted-search calculations, and usage limits, see the Included Capacity Package section.

To use federated search for third-party data stores, the following requirements apply:

  • Federated search for third party data stores is available and enabled for your Splunk Cloud Platform environment.

  • Your Splunk Cloud Platform environment is deployed on a supported cloud provider and in a supported region. Review Available regions and region differences for current availability.

  • You have existing data in a supported data store.

  • You have appropriate permissions to configure connections to your third party data stores and catalogs.

The following compliance and limitations apply:

  • Federated search for third party data stores is not currently available for Splunk Cloud Platform deployments on Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, or in FedRAMP Moderate, FedRAMP High, IRAP, or DoD IL5 environments.

  • Federated search for third party data stores is designed for historical investigations, ad hoc reporting, dataset exploration, and compliance-oriented lookbacks. It is not a replacement for Splunk-indexed data for real-time detections or high-frequency scheduled searches.

  • Data stored in archive storage classes (e.g., AWS S3 Glacier) may not be immediately searchable. This requires a restore first.

  • Federated Search entitlement usage is measured in weighted searches per day. Monitor usage in the Federated Search dashboard in the Cloud Monitoring Console.

Search Knowledge Bundle replication size 3 GB This is the hard limit of the maximum Knowledge Bundle replication size. If the Knowledge Bundle exceeds this service limit, the search tier will not push the bundle to the indexer tier. Searches on the indexer tier will instead use the previously pushed bundle, which will be within the size limit.

Splunk Cloud Platform

Dynamic Data Active Searchable (DDAS)

Dynamic Data Active Archive (DDAA)

Dynamic Data Self-Storage (DDSS)

Subscription types

Your subscription to the Splunk Cloud Platform service is workload-based. By exception, you may be on an ingest-based subscription. Both subscription types include either Standard Success Plan or Premium Success Plan. For more information, refer to the Splunk Success Plan.

Workload-based subscription

This subscription is based on the resource capacity consumed rather than the data volume ingested. Your subscription entitles you to the purchased workload resources and this subscription does not meter ingestion. You can increase ingest and/or search load and operate the service to your desired performance objective. As necessary, you can purchase additional resource capacity to increase ingest and search load or to improve performance. You purchase units of storage blocks based on your data retention requirements for your workload-based subscription. If you ingested far more data than your initial estimate and thus exceeded your purchased storage capacity, the Splunk Cloud Platform service elastically expands the amount of storage to retain your data per your retention settings. Refer to the Splunk General Terms for Splunk's policy for Overages. The Cloud Monitoring Console and Splunk Web provide you with the total amount of data retained at any given time.

Ingest-based subscription

By exception, you may be on an ingest-based subscription. An ingest-based subscription for Splunk Cloud Platform is based on the volume of uncompressed data that you want to index on a daily basis. The subscription pricing also includes a fixed amount of data storage. If you ingest more data than your entitlement and thus exceed your storage entitlement, the Splunk Cloud Platform service elastically expands the amount of storage to retain your data per your retention settings. Refer to the Splunk General Terms for Splunk's policy for Overages. The Cloud Monitoring Console and Splunk Web provide you with the total amount of data retained at any given time.

Splunk Cloud included capacity package

Eligible Splunk Cloud Platform environments include fixed capacity for selected features at no additional charge. These included capacities let you begin using supported data processing, retention, and federated search workflows within Splunk Cloud Platform before you purchase additional capacity.

Included capacities are subject to service limits, regional availability, cloud provider support, and your environment's configuration. Where the related feature is available, the included capacities are:

Feature Included Capacity
Machine Data Lake Land and Retain Land and retain up to 10TB of machine data in Machine Data Lake
Machine Data Lake static promotion to Splunk Index Promote up to 1TB/year (2.8 GB/day)
Machine Data Lake promotion to Analytics Table Promote up to 10 GB per day
Federated Search 100 searches per day
Ingest Processor 500 GB per day

For Federated Search, the number of searches consumed is weighted by the amount of compressed GB scanned:

  • A search that scans less than 10 compressed GB counts as 1 search.
  • A search that scans between 10 and 100 compressed GB counts as 5 searches.

  • A search that scans over 100 compressed GB counts as 25 searches.

Included capacities are added on top of whatever purchased capacity you might have, including legacy data scan unit (DSU) entitlements. Included capacities are consumed before your purchased capacity.

You can view supported capacities and usage in the Cloud Monitoring Console. Splunk software will notify administrators as usage approaches or exceeds included capacity levels. To continue or expand usage beyond the included capacity, contact your Splunk representative to purchase additional capacity.

Data policies

Splunk Cloud Platform administers your data according to the following policies:

  • Your workload-based subscription entitles you to the purchased workload resources and this subscription does not meter ingestion.
  • Your Splunk Cloud Platform ingest-based subscription governs how much data you can load into your Splunk Cloud Platform deployment per day (GMT). You can exceed your ingest-based subscription daily index volume a maximum of five times in a calendar month. If you exceed your daily limit more than five times in a calendar month, your Splunk sales representative may work with you to help you reduce your usage to stay within the purchased limit or to purchase the necessary increase. If you are unable or unwilling to abide by the applicable usage limit, you will pay any invoice for excess usage in accordance with your Terms of Service. If you consistently exceed your ingest-based subscription limit, contact Splunk Sales to do a benchmark assessment to determine your volume needs and purchase an appropriate plan to handle your volume.

To see current and past daily data ingestion information in Splunk Web, use the Cloud Monitoring Console app. For more information, see Locate the Cloud Monitoring Console and Use the License Usage dashboards. Splunk recommends you set up alerts in the system to monitor your license usage.

Subscription expansions, renewals, and terminations

注: The following information does not apply for free, proof-of-concept, or unpaid trial services.

You can expand aspects of your Splunk Cloud Platform subscription anytime during the term of the subscription to meet your business needs. You can optionally add subscriptions to do the following:

  • Increase your workload-based or ingest-based subscription level.
  • Add additional storage capacity in 500 GB increments to store more data.
  • Add encryption services to Splunk-hosted environments to help maintain the privacy of data at rest.
  • Add a HIPAA or PCI DSS cloud environment to assist you with meeting your compliance needs.
  • Add new use cases for Splunk Cloud Platform with Splunk premium solutions such as Enterprise Security (ES) and IT Service Intelligence (ITSI). With workload-based subscriptions, the unit of measurement is in SVC for both entitlements. With ingest-based subscriptions, the unit of measurement is in GB for both entitlements.

You will receive renewal notifications starting 60 days prior to the end date of your current subscription term. For more information on subscription renewals, contact your Splunk sales representative. If your Splunk Cloud Platform subscription expires and no temporary extension is submitted on your behalf by your Splunk sales representative, it is considered terminated. The policy for terminated Splunk Cloud Platform subscriptions are the following:

  • Your ability to perform searches stops immediately.
  • Your ability to ingest data stops 30 days following termination.
  • Your data is deleted 30 days following termination.

If you require your ingested data to be moved into your control before the termination of your subscription, this is accomplished through a Splunk Professional Services engagement. Some data can be moved into your control by enabling Dynamic Data Self-Storage to export your aged data to your Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage account in the same region. Note that Dynamic Data Self-Storage does not export your configuration data. If you choose to use Dynamic Data Self-Storage to export your aged ingested data, you must do so prior to termination of your subscription. You are responsible for AWS, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage charges you incur for your use of Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage.
