Track promotion progress, review job details, and open the promoted dataset when it is ready to use.
You need to own the promotion job or have the relevant promotion job management capability.
After you start a promotion, Machine Data Lake creates a promotion job. Use the Promotion jobs tab to track progress, inspect the settings that you submitted, and open the promoted dataset when the job completes. Available actions depend on the job state and promotion type. If a promotion job remains pending, is delayed, or fails because of unsupported processing, review the job details and revise the promotion configuration before retrying. - From the global navigation bar in Splunk Cloud Platform, select the Catalog (
) icon.
- On the Catalog page, select the Promotion jobs tab.
- (Optional) Select Refresh jobs to load the latest job status.
- Find the promotion job that you want to review.
You can filter, sort, or page through the promotion job list. Use details such as the promoted dataset name, promotion type, promotion mode, status, and creation time to identify the right job. Check the status icon and label to see whether the job is complete, active, canceled, or failed.
- Select the promotion job and review its details.
Review the job state, last status update, source dataset, promoted dataset, promotion type, and promotion mode. Use this information to decide whether to open the promoted dataset, manage the job, retry the job, or investigate a failed job.
- Choose the next action for the promotion job. Available actions depend on the promotion mode and job status.
- Select the promoted dataset link or View details to open the promoted dataset.
- Select Delete job if you no longer need the job record. Deleting a job removes the job record. It does not delete the promoted dataset.
- For a pending static or streaming job, select Cancel job if you no longer want the job to run.
- For an active streaming job, select Pause, Edit, Resume, or Cancel job when the action is available.
- For a failed job, review the state information or error message before you decide what to do next.
- To open the promoted dataset details, select View details for the job.
On the promoted dataset Overview tab, review the dataset description, type, promotion mode, retention, and fields. Use Top 10 values per field to inspect common field values when those values are available. Review Related promotion jobs to check the promotion history for the dataset, and refresh the related jobs table when you need the latest job status.
Note: For recently promoted datasets, especially datasets created from large promotion jobs, default field-value filters such as source, sourcetype, host, and time might not find the promoted dataset immediately after the promotion job completes. Search by dataset name, open the promoted dataset from the promotion job details, or allow more time for metadata in the Catalog to refresh.
- To search the promoted dataset, select Search from the promoted dataset page.
The search page opens with a query for the promoted dataset. Review or edit the SPL2 search, choose a time range, and run the search. Use the results tabs to review events, patterns, statistics, or visualizations. If the search returns no results, expand the time range or revise the search.
- To update promoted dataset settings when needed, select the Manage tab on the promoted dataset page.
You can edit the dataset description, add access for roles or people, or configure Open Sharing where supported. To enable Open Sharing, set the Expires in value and unit, then select Enable sharing. Select Save after you make changes that require saving.
- Review the confirmation message before you delete a promoted dataset.
Deleting a promoted dataset cancels related promotion jobs. In the confirmation dialog box, select Cancel to keep the dataset or Delete to confirm the deletion.
