Manage SPL2 modules

The Modules page in the Search & Reporting app lists the available SPL2 modules. Use this page to browse, edit, clone, and delete modules.

The Modules page in the Search & Reporting app lists the SPL2 modules that are available to you, including modules that you own as well as modules that other users have shared with you. Use this page to browse for SPL2 modules and edit, clone, or delete them as needed.

The SPL2 modules and actions that are available to you on the Modules page vary depending on the permissions that you have for each module. For more information, see SPL2 module permissions.

Filter for specific SPL2 modules

To find a specific SPL2 module, you can filter the list of modules shown on the page.

Enter matching terms in the filter field, and use the drop-down list beside the field to narrow the scope of the SPL2 modules that are displayed on the page.

The page displays all SPL2 modules, across all apps, that you have Read or Write permission for.

Private (yours)

The page only displays private SPL2 modules that you own in the Search & Reporting app.

In this app (search)

The page only displays shared SPL2 modules in the Search & Reporting app that you have Read or Write permission for.

Review metadata for an SPL2 module

In the row for each SPL2 module, you can select the Expand row icon (This image shows an icon with a right-pointing angle bracket.) to see the metadata for the module, such as the ID, namespace, and the user who last modified the module. The namespace and ID of the module form a fully-qualified file path that you can use to refer to the module and import SPL2 items from it.

Edit, clone, or delete SPL2 modules

To open a module in the SPL2 module editor, select the name of the module.

Additionally, in the Actions column, you can select Edit to access the following actions for working with your SPL2 modules:

Edit permissions

Modify the permissions for accessing the SPL2 module that are granted to each role in the Splunk platform instance. For more information, see SPL2 module permissions.

This action is only available for shared SPL2 modules.

Clone

Create a copy of the SPL2 module. You become the owner of the copy and have Write permission for it.

Delete

Delete the SPL2 module permanently.
CAUTION: Be aware that if the module contains SPL2 items that are used in other modules or knowledge objects such as reports and dashboards, then deleting the module can cause them to stop working as expected.
