System requirements

Splunk Enterprise supports workload management on Linux operating systems only.

Supported Linux distributions

For a list of supported Linux distributions, see Supported operating systems.

Supported cgroups version

Starting with version 9.4, Splunk Enterprise automatically detects and switches to cgroups v2 for workload management on all Linux operating systems that use cgroups v2 by default, including:

  • RHEL 9
  • AL2023
  • Ubuntu 22
  • RHEL 8

Note: Support for RHEL 8 has been added as an exception for a unique case, in line with a Red Hat recommendation to transition to cgroups v2 for RHEL 8. For further details, please contact support and reference RHEL-63896.

For more information, see Set up Linux for workload management.

Systemd version

Workload management requires systemd version 219 or higher.

Note: Systemd is not a mandatory requirement, but if systemd is running on your Linux system, it must be version 219 or higher.
Note: Support for RHEL 8 has been added as an exception for a unique case, in line with a Red Hat recommendation to transition to cgroups v2 for RHEL 8. For further details, please contact support and reference RHEL-63896.
