Create a business journey
Create a business journey to view a visual representation of the steps users take to complete a specific business objective.
A business journey provides a visual representation of the steps users take to complete a specific business objective. Create journeys using automatic discovery or manually create a journey to maintain more precise control over each event. Business journeys use data from Splunk APM and Splunk RUM to visualize and optimize your business processes.
Prerequisites
-
You must have recent Splunk Real User Monitoring (RUM) or Splunk Application Performance Monitoring (APM) data to use when creating business journeys.
-
Ensure your RUM or APM data includes a correlation attribute that identifies the business process you want to follow.
Automatically discover a business journey
Automatic business journey creation allows you to generate a journey map by describing your business intent. The system analyzes your data patterns to suggest the most relevant journey steps.
- Navigate to the Business Journeys page.
- Select Create business journey.
- Select Auto-Discover Business Journey.
-
Select Discover journeys from one one of the listed correlation tags. Correlation tags are attribute values shared by related RUM or APM events. This data is analyzed to generate a consolidated business journey with milestones.
-
Review the discovered milestones and the associated metrics to validate whether they accurately reflect your workflow. The discovered milestones display a preview of the count and conversion data.
-
After you complete reviewing the discovered journeys, select the discovered journey and select Add Journey.
A milestone in a business journey is an event marking a significant stage in a business workflow. For example, in a loan application process, the first milestone might be a user submitting a loan application.
Create a journey manually
Manually create a journey when you have a well-defined business process and need to map specific events to defined outcomes.

The configuration also includes a
modefield (for example,Regular) that determines the journey processing behavior.
