Create a template

Configure collector compatibility, components, pipelines, and the generated YAML to create a reusable template.

You must have permission to create templates. See Template permissions.

You create a template from the Templates list page. Do the following:

  1. Set up a template: Define the template name, description, operating system, collector type, collector version, and starting configuration.
  2. Add components: Select the receivers, processors, and exporters that the template uses to ingest, process, and send telemetry data.
  3. Build pipelines: Connect the selected components into telemetry pipelines for traces, metrics, or logs.
  4. Preview template: Review, validate, edit, copy, or download the generated YAML configuration before saving the template.
