Splunk AppDynamics On-Premises Virtual Appliance Enhancements

Elasticsearch scaling: After adding worker nodes to the cluster, you can scale Elasticsearch capacity out or in across one or multiple selected nodes. Scaling adjusts the Elasticsearch replica count and redistributes shards to increase capacity for higher workloads or release capacity when it is no longer required. Dedicated Controller node: You can dedicate a worker node to the single-instance Controller, isolating it from other platform services. Virtual Appliance aligns Controller CPU, memory, and JVM heap with the dedicated node to provide predictable resource availability and performance. See Dedicate a Node to the Controller.

For a standard deployment, the large Virtual Appliance profile now supports ingestion of 2.4 million metrics per minute, increased from 1.7 million metrics per minute in release 26.1. Anomaly Detection and Root Cause Analysis support 100% of this ingestion workload, compared with certification for 10% of applications in release 26.1. See Sizing Requirements.

This release introduces the initial version of the Health Dashboard, focused on the health of Virtual Appliance cluster infrastructure and application services. The dashboard provides a consolidated view that helps you identify unhealthy infrastructure components and application services more quickly. See Health Dashboard.

Centralized operational visibility: Built-in self-monitoring securely collects Virtual Appliance metrics and provides centralized visibility into cluster infrastructure, platform services, datastores, ingress, and certificate health. See Self Monitoring for the Virtual Appliance.

Proactive health monitoring: Configurable AppDynamics health rules help identify service availability, resource utilization, replication, service-error, and certificate-expiration issues. See Customize Self Monitoring alerts and notifications.

You can now audit Virtual Appliance cluster certificates and view their remaining validity and severity as Expired, Critical, Warning, or OK. You can also rotate leaf certificates managed by cert-manager or rotate the platform root CA and default ingress certificate when required. Hybrid audits also report external certificates in the Virtual Appliance configuration folder. See Manage Virtual Appliance Certificates.

Release 26.7 introduces a Virtual Appliance-packaged XtraBackup operator as the default MySQL backup method, replacing the logical full-snapshot workflow used in release 26.1. It supports physical full and incremental backups to S3 or file-system storage, scheduling, retention and backup-chain management, and guided restore from the latest or a selected chain. The release 26.1 workflow remains available for backward compatibility. See Back Up and Restore the Virtual Appliance.

This release introduces a task-based Virtual Appliance CLI organized into top-level sections for Service Management, Datastores and Infrastructure, Platform Operations, Licensing and Credentials, Applications, and Diagnostics. This organization makes commands easier to discover and provides a more consistent experience for Virtual Appliance administration. See Virtual Appliance CLI.

Extended diagnostic views: Extended diagnostic views for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Kafka provide deeper health, performance, configuration, replication, and workload insights. Support-bundle data collection is also enhanced with additional diagnostic insights. See Virtual Appliance CLI.

Virtual Appliance now packages two MCP servers: Virtual Appliance MCP and AppDynamics MCP. Their expanded tools support cluster diagnostics and operations across pods, events, resources, certificates, service health, and hybrid configuration, plus application and end-user monitoring queries.
