Self-Managed External Stateful Services
Splunk AppDynamics Virtual Appliance can use stateful services that you operate outside the OpenShift cluster.
Splunk AppDynamics Virtual Appliance supports self-managed external stateful services for organizations that need direct control over service availability, capacity, security, monitoring, and data protection. Instead of deploying embedded stateful services, Virtual Appliance connects to compatible stateful services that you can manage on your own.
External services mode applies to every supported stateful service and is available only for fresh installations. Before enabling it, prepare all required services, network connectivity, credentials, certificates, backup processes, and monitoring. Virtual Appliance validates and uses these services but does not provision, administer, back up, or restore them.
External services mode
Set externalizeServices.enabled: true to select the external implementation of every supported stateful service. The selection applies for the life of the installation.
Do not switch an installed deployment between embedded and external modes. Virtual Appliance does not migrate data from embedded services or between external services.
Responsibilities
You are responsible for the external services, including:
- Availability, scaling, patching, upgrades, and failover
- Network access and DNS
- User identities, passwords, and certificates
- Capacity and performance
- Monitoring and alerting
- Backup, restore, retention, and disaster recovery
