About tag classifications

Tag classifications in business journeys are fields from RUM and APM telemetry that provide context about each milestone in a journey.

Overview

Tag classifications are fields from RUM and APM telemetry that provide context about each milestone in a journey. Splunk discovers available classifications from telemetry and classifies them based on how they can be used:

  • Correlation IDs identify the same business process across milestones.

  • Metrics provide numeric values that you can use to define business KPIs.

  • Filters let you segment journey results, such as by region, plan, or customer type.

Use the Tag Classification page to manage how tags are categorized and made available to business journeys. Tags are discovered from RUM or APM data, exposed for KPI and filter configuration, and associated with the milestones where they occur.

View business journey tag classifications

  1. From the navigation menu, open Business Insights and select Tag Classification.

  2. Select an Environment.

  3. Use the Event type, Source, and App or service filters to narrow the list.

  4. Select a type of classification:

    1. Correlation are unique keys that identify related events across a journey (for example, loan.id, order_id).
    2. Measurement contains numeric values that can be used for business KPIs (for example, cart value, credit score).
    3. Filter provides values for filtering and grouping journey results (for example, region, tier).

    4. Excluded are values not currently used by business journeys and weren't classified automatically.

  5. Search for a tag or sort the list by value count. Review the tag's approximate value count, sample values, and telemetry sources.

  6. Select Reclassify for the tag classification if the assigned category does not match the type of tag. Select the correct classification that matches how you want to use the tag.

The updated classification determines whether the tag is available for business journey configuration, KPI definitions, and dimension filters.
