Create a host-based group

Create a group that targets Linux or Windows hosts and assigns a collector template.

1. On the Groups list page, select +Create a new group, then select the host-based group option.
2. Complete the group setup fields.

   Use the following fields to define the host group:

   Field	Description
   Group name	Enter a unique name for the host group.
   Description	Optionally enter a summary or context for the group.
   Group type	Select the operating system platform (Windows or Linux) for the hosts in this group.
   Select collector template to deploy	Select a predefined template. The list displays the templates for the selected group type.

   Select Next.

3. Choose the host targets for the group.

   The available hosts reflect the Linux or Windows group type selected in the preceding step. Use the following filters to isolate the target hosts:

   Filter	Description
   Environment	Select one or more environments. By default, the filter selects All.
   Version	Select one or more collector versions. By default, the filter selects All.
   Status	Select a connection status. By default, the filter selects All.
   Add filter	Add the collector type filter.

   Select Next to proceed to the YAML preview step. If your new host group uses the exact same applied filters as the existing groups, the system displays the list of existing groups.

   You can resolve configuration conflicts by defining the precedence of your new group relative to those already in the system.

   Select the group from the list and use the following options to determine how the system handles the overlapping targets:

   • Cancel and redefine the set: Discards the current priority decision and returns you to the previous screen to adjust your target filters.
   • Place below this group: Assigns a lower priority to your new group, ensuring that existing groups take precedence.
   • Prioritize above this group: Assigns a higher priority to your new group, allowing it to override the settings of the selected existing group.

   By selecting a priority level, you ensure that the correct configuration is applied to your hosts when multiple groups attempt to manage the same entities.

4. Review the generated Collector configuration in the YAML preview.

   You can copy the YAML configuration or download it as a file. Then select one of the following actions:

   Action	Description
   Save	Save the group without deploying it. The group remains in Draft status.
   Save & deploy group	Save the group and immediately deploy the configuration to all matching host targets.
