Kubernetes group setup details
Use group settings, filters, and priority options to define a Kubernetes group and preview its collector configuration.
Use the following fields to define your new Kubernetes group:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Group name | Yes | Enter a unique group name. |
| Description | Optional | Enter a brief description of the purpose of the group. |
| Select collector templates to deploy | Yes |
Select at least one of the following templates:
|
| For cluster receiver | Optional | Select a template from the drop-down menu to assign to collectors running as cluster receivers. The drop-down menu lists all available templates created for the cluster receiver. |
| For workload agents | Optional | Select a template from the drop-down menu to assign to collectors running as workload agents. The drop-down menu lists all available templates created for the workload agents. |
| For workload gateways | Optional | Select a template from the drop-down menu to assign to collectors running as workload gateways. The drop-down menu lists all available templates created for the workload gateways. |
Select Next to proceed to the Choose clusters step.
Choose clusters
Use filters to isolate a set of Kubernetes cluster targets to include in the group.
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Environment | Select one or more environments to filter clusters. The default value is All. |
| Distribution version | Select one or more collector versions to filter clusters. The default value is All. |
Select Next to choose the workloads based on the collector template selection in the Group setup step.
Choose receiver workloads
Use filters to isolate a set of receiver workload targets to include in the group.
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Environment | Select one or more environments to filter receiver workloads. The default value is All. |
| Distribution version | Select one or more collector versions to filter receiver workloads. The default value is All. |
Select Next to choose the workloads based on the collector template selection in the Group setup step.
Choose agent workloads
Use filters to isolate a set of agent workload targets to include in the group.
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Environment | Select one or more environments to filter agent workloads. The default value is All. |
| Distribution version | Select one or more collector versions to filter agent workloads. The default value is All. |
Select Next to choose the workloads based on the collector template selection in the Group setup step.
Choose gateway workloads
Use filters to isolate a set of gateway workload targets to include in the group.
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Environment | Select one or more environments to filter gateway workloads. The default value is All. |
| Distribution version | Select one or more collector versions to filter gateway workloads. The default value is All. |
Set group priority
If your new Kubernetes group uses the same applied filters as existing groups, the system displays the existing groups.
Resolve configuration conflicts by defining the precedence of your new group relative to existing groups.
Select a group from the list and choose an option to determine how the system handles the overlapping targets:
-
Cancel and redefine the set: Discards the current priority decision and returns you to the previous screen to adjust your target filters.
-
Place below this group: Assigns a lower priority to your new group, so existing groups take precedence.
-
Prioritize above this group: Assigns a higher priority to your new group, allowing it to override the selected existing group’s settings.
Select a priority level to ensure that the correct configuration applies to your Kubernetes group when multiple groups manage the same entities.
Select Next to proceed to the YAML preview step.
YAML Preview
The YAML preview step displays the complete OpenTelemetry Collector configuration generated from the templates assigned in Step 1.
Copy the YAML configuration or download it as a file. After you review the configuration, select one of the following:
| Button | Description |
|---|---|
| Save | Saves the group without deploying it. This is a draft state. |
| Save & deploy group | Saves the group and immediately deploys the configuration to all matched host targets. |
