Template setup
In the Template setup page, enter the basic information that identifies the template and determines which collectors can use it.
| Field | Required | Description |

| Template name | Yes | Enter a unique and descriptive name for the template. |
| Description | No | Enter a short description that explains the template purpose. |
| Select OS type | Yes | Select the operating system such as Linux Hosts, Windows Hosts, or Kubernetes Clusters for your Collector. |
| Collector Type | Yes | Select the collector type, such as Agent, Gateway, or Cluster. |
| Sync template to this version of Splunk Distribution of the OpenTelemetry Collector | Yes | Select the Collector version from the list that the template targets. |
| Starting configuration for the collector | Yes |

After you enter the required fields, they click Next to add the components to build the pipeline.
