License Metrics in Metric Browser

In Metric Browser, you can view the license metrics associated with your Agent-based Licensing and Infrastructure-based Licensing packages. From Metric Tree, expand the following components to view the associated license metrics:

The Metric Browser enables you to:

  • view the metrics for a selected time period and compare the metrics relative to baseline values.
  • analyze the metric details and the patterns of your license consumption and usage.

Note: The license metrics are displayed in five minutes granularity instead of one minute. So, for time period less than two days, the data points for the selected metric are displayed in the form of dot chart instead of line graph.

You can use the metrics to create health rules. These health rules enable you to receive alerts whenever there is a deviation from the normal license usage pattern, helping you proactively manage license consumption and avoid potential issues. See Alerts for License Metrics.

License Metrics Examples

Here are a few examples of license metrics:

  • The Entity (Count), Limit (LU), Usage (LU), and Utilization (%) metrics associated with the APM entities and the Infrastructure entities.

    Note: LU refers to Licensed Units.

  • The Utilization (%) metric represents the percentage of Usage licensed units. You can use the metric to create health rules and set warning thresholds such as 80% or 90%, regardless of your current licensing configuration.

  • The contribution metrics Agent/ Host (Count) and Usage across various APM agents and hosts.

  • The metric Storage(GB) for Unified_RUM can be used to create alerts for preventing any ingestion issues.

  • The Usage (LU) metric for each application running in your environment. You can monitor the license consumption trends of all applications running in your environment over time. By analyzing these trends, you can make informed decisions to allocate licenses efficiently based on actual usage requirements.

    Note:

    The Usage metric for each application is a BETA feature and disabled by default. To enable this feature, set the following flag:

    appdynamics.licensing.usages.report.per-app.business-metrics.enabled = true.

  • For the Agent-based Licensing account, you can use the following metrics to monitor the storage usage of each application:

    • Usage(Bytes)- measures the storage usage in bytes.

    • Usage(Count)- measures the number of events that consume the storage space.

    These storage metrics are currently available for Transaction Analytics, Browser Real User Monitoring, and Mobile Real User Monitoring applications. These metrics are supported on Events Service 26.1.0 or later. You can use the metrics to create health rules and monitor which application is consuming more storage and limit it. The Metric Browser displays storage metrics only for applications and Business Transactions that were active for the selected time period.
