Preferred maintenance window
The preferred maintenance window feature provides a predictable maintenance schedule. Splunk Cloud Platform uses this window to schedule any Splunk Support or customer-requested changes that require downtime. By default, the preferred maintenance window is a 8-hour time block, but the actual downtime is usually less than the full window, and only for the time needed to complete changes. Maintenance windows are scheduled in UTC, providing a universal standard across regional time zones.
The Maintenance dashboard shows your default preferred maintenance window. Select View details to view the following information about this window:
Maintenance window settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Default time window | A default maintenance time window and day currently set for your deployment. Splunk Cloud Platform typically schedules any standard or customer-requested change that requires downtime only during this selected day and within this time window. Your deployment will usually be unavailable for less than the full window and only for the time needed to make changes. All times are in UTC. |
| Alternate days | If maintenance cannot be completed on the default day, Splunk Cloud Platform might use an alternate day. Alternate day maintenance uses the same time window as your default day. |
| Additional windows for smaller changes | Additional windows ensure faster delivery of smaller, customer-requested changes, such as app installation or configuration changes. The impact of these types of changes is relatively small, typically causing less than 60 minutes of downtime. |
