Clear alert notifications

You can change the settings of notifications based on the alert state to reduce notification fatigue.

You can reduce the number of notifications by deactivating notifications for alert resolution states. This allows your team to reduce notification noise and focus on active incidents that require attention. You can also stop notifications caused by system restarts during maintenance windows.
Note: Deactivating clear notifications for integrations such as PagerDuty means the ticket will not be updated (i.e., closed).

Resolution states

When an alert clears, the system assigns a resolution state. You can deactivate the notification types for the alert resolutions listed in the table below.

Notification

Description

Stopped

The detector is muted or inactive when the alert is triggered

Back to normal

The alert is cleared

Manually resolved

The alert is manually set as resolved during an alert state

Auto-cleared

The Auto-clear setting is applied to the detector and the specified duration has elapsed. To learn more, see Auto-clear alerts.

Data integrity

The system still records the alert transition in the Event Time Series (ETS) and the event store, even if you deactivate the notification. You can view the alert history in the UI at any time.

API configuration

You can configure these settings through the API. For details, see the Detector API documentation.

Configure clear notifications

Configure clear notification suppression settings for your detectors using the UI.

You have already created a detector.
Note: If you are creating a new detector, see Set notifications for different alert states.
Follow these steps to configure the notifications for alerts changing resolution states for an existing detector.
  1. Navigate to the Alerts > Detectors.
  2. Select the detector that you want to change the notification settings.
  3. Select Edit to update the notification settings for an existing rule.
  4. Select Alert notifications.
  5. Add a recipient.
  6. From Advanced notification settings, deselect the notifications for the alert resolution states that you don't want to be notified for:
    • Notify me when alert is back to normal
    • Notify me when alert is manually resolved
    • Notify me when alert is stopped
    • Notify me when alert is auto-cleared
Tip: The default activates all of the notifications.
  7. Select Done.
  8. Select Update Alert Rule.
