Assign a configuration set to OpenTelemetry Collectors

Assign a configuration set to one or more OpenTelemetry Collector agents that support remote configuration.

Use configuration sets to send a complete desired configuration to OTel Collector agents from agent management. You can assign a configuration set to one collector or to multiple collectors at the same time.

Use the OTel Collectors tab to review connected collectors, check which configuration set is assigned to each collector, and monitor remote configuration status. Use the Configuration Sets tab to find available configuration sets and open a configuration set details page. From the details page, expand files on the Details tab to inspect view-only configuration file contents, or use the Agents tab to review which agents have the configuration set assigned.

CAUTION: Before you assign a configuration set, verify that its files do not contain secrets that require storage protection. The OpAMP service (OAS) and the Postgres sidecar do not encrypt stored configuration at rest. For storage details and secret-handling options, see Remote configuration of OpenTelemetry Collectors.

Before you assign a configuration set, make sure that the following conditions are met:

  • OTel Collectors management is enabled in Splunk Enterprise.
  • At least one configuration set exists.
  • At least one connected OTel Collector agent reports the AcceptsRemoteConfig capability.
  • To report remote configuration status, the OTel Collector agent also reports the ReportsRemoteConfig capability.
  1. Log in to Splunk Enterprise, select the settings icon (Settings), and then, under the Distributed Environment section, select Agent management.
  2. From the left menu, select the OTel Collectors view.
  3. On the OTel Collectors tab, view the list of collectors.
To narrow the list of collectors, use the table filters.
  4. Select one or more OTel Collector agents that report the AcceptsRemoteConfig capability.
  5. From Actions, select Assign configuration set.
  6. In the Assign Configuration Set window, select a configuration set from the Configuration Set list.
  7. Select Assign.
The OTel Collector details page opens.

The selected OTel Collector agents have the configuration set assigned. To view configuration set details, select the configuration set name in the Configuration Set column.
