May 2026

Release notes for May 2026.

Splunk Observability Cloud released the following new features and enhancements in May 2026. This is not an exhaustive list of changes in the Splunk Observability Cloud ecosystem. For a detailed breakdown of changes in versioned components, see the list of changelogs.

What's new

New feature or enhancement Description Release date
Alert notifications to services Mutual TLS (mTLS) support is now available for the Notification Server to enable origin verification for webhook requests. This feature allows you to confirm that incoming notifications originate from your specific organization within Splunk Observability. This implementation provides an additional method for verifying the authenticity of automated notification traffic. May 20, 2026
OpenTelemetry Fleet Management This release introduces the OpenTelemetry Fleet Management solution, which provides APIs to retrieve detailed inventory and configuration information for agents and collectors. See Manage OpenTelemetry Collectors and Agents.
Note: This feature is being released as part of a phased rollout. Access is currently limited to a select group of accounts within specific realms and will be gradually expanded to all accounts across all realms. If you would like to request access to this feature, contact your account representative for further information.

Splunk APM

Group services as applications to monitor the health, performance, and dependencies of services that support specific business capabilities. You can also filter services and business transactions by an application.

See Monitor applications in Splunk APM.

May 20, 2026

Define which HTTP error codes contribute to the error rate metric in APM by updating the default configuration for all services or configuring a custom override for a specific service. See Customize the error logic in Splunk APM.

May 20, 2026

Mark business transactions as favorites to create a prioritized list of critical business transactions, enable proactive monitoring, and more efficiently triage issues. See Favorite a business transaction.

As of May 20, 2026, non-histogram Monitoring MetricSets (MMS) are no longer available for new customers. Customers who onboarded prior to this date can still use non-histogram MMS. Existing detectors and charts using non-histogram MMS aren't affected by this change.

For more information about MMS, see Learn about Monitoring MetricSets in Splunk APM.

May 20, 2026

Use seasonality-aware APM detectors that automatically adapt to your application's unique traffic patterns to eliminate manual configuration and reduce alert noise. Learn more.

Splunk Observability for AI: AI Agent Monitoring

Store your AI agent conversation data in Splunk Observability Cloud to enable the following features:

If you previously stored your AI agent conversation data in Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud Platform, you can Switch your AI agent conversation data source.

Feature availability depends on where you store your AI agent conversation data. See Feature support matrix for AI Agent Monitoring.

May 20, 2026

Instrument and monitor the performance of FastMCP servers and GCP VertexAI applications.

May 20, 2026

The OpenTelemetry GenAI utility now includes agentic workflow support for Weaviate applications.

If a Weaviate span is a child span of an overarching agentic framework like LangChain, the Weaviate span inherits the agentic attributes of the parent span through downwards propagation. To instrument a Weaviate application, see Configure zero-code instrumentation for Python AI applications.

Splunk Observability for AI: AI Security Monitoring

Detect privacy and security risks within AI Agent Monitoring by activating AI Security Monitoring, an integration with Cisco AI Defense.

Splunk RUM

Splunk RUM iOS agent 2.3.0 includes the following updates to the navigation detection module:

May 20, 2026
Splunk Synthetics You can now specify multiple selector paths for browser test steps. If the primary selector fails due to drift, the test falls back to the backups, reducing flakiness. For more information, see Add synthetic transactions to your browser test. May 20, 2026
Dashboards Use the Splunk Observability Cloud AI Assistant in the Chart Builder to generate SignalFlow charts. See

Use AI Assistant to build charts in Splunk Observability Cloud.

Additionally, migrate all of your dashboards to the new modern dashboard experience, which includes support for new visualizations. See Use new dashboard experience.

Known issues

The following are issues and workarounds for Splunk Observability Cloud.
Date filed Feature Issue number Description
May 6, 2026 AI Agent Monitoring HYBIM-682

Enabling Generative AI content capture with one of the following settings may cause performance issues:

  • OpenTelemetry GenAI utility version 0.1.14 and higher: OTEL_INSTRUMENTATION_GENAI_CAPTURE_MESSAGE_CONTENT as SPAN_AND_EVENT, SPAN_ONLY, or EVENT_ONLY

  • OpenTelemetry GenAI utility version 0.1.13 and lower: OTEL_INSTRUMENTATION_GENAI_CAPTURE_MESSAGE_CONTENT=true

This issue may arise when content captured in input and output gen_ai span attributes is larger than Splunk Observability Cloud and AI Agent Monitoring backend limits. For more information, see Recording content on attributes in the OpenTelemetry documentation.
