Abbreviations, acronyms, initialisms
Abbreviations simplify phrases or terms, including acronyms and initialisms. Refer to related Splunk documentation for guidance on using abbreviations effectively.
Abbreviations are a shortened version of a phrase or term.
Acronyms and initialisms are special types of abbreviations: An acronym is a specific type of abbreviation that forms a new, pronounceable word from the first letter of a phrase, and an initialism is an abbreviation pronounced as individual letters.
