View and Manage Agent Details

When you click Manage Agents, you can view the following Agent details:

  • App Server Agents
  • Machine Agents
  • Smart Agents
  • Database Agents
  • Analytics Agents
  • Network Visibility Agents
  • Cluster Agents
    Note: You cannot manage Analytics Agents, Network Visibility Agents, and Cluster Agents using Smart Agent or Smart Agent CLI. Therefore, you cannot install, upgrade, or rollback these agents from the Agent Management UI.

Agent Management UI with collapsible right pane On the right pane you can view details of the agents that require an upgrade.

The Agent Management page provides the following details:

  • Agents
  • Tasks in Progress
  • History
  • Config Management
  • Processes
  • Deployment Groups

Agents

This displays all agents with the inventory details. The following sections include the agent details and actions that you can perform on the respective agents:

Note: If you have not installed Smart Agent, the Smart Agent ID and Managed columns will not display any value.

App Server Agents

Inventory

NameDescription
Version Status

Displays the version status of the agents on which the application is running.

  • The Latest icon represents that the corresponding agent type is running the latest version.
  • The Out of Date icon represents that the corresponding agent type has a version which is no longer supported.
  • The Update Available icon represents that the corresponding agent type has a version that is not the latest, hence requires to be updated.
  • The Unknown icon represents that the version is unknown. It can be because the machine is not connected to the network or the machine is down.
TypeThe type of the agent such as Java, Python, Node, Webserver, and Dotnet.
VersionThe current version of the agent.
Smart Agent ID

The ID of the Smart Agent that manages the corresponding app agent.

If the value is not displayed, then Smart Agent is not installed.

Unique Host IDThe unique ID of the host on which the agent is running.
ManagedThe value can be Yes if the agent is managed by Smart Agent and No if the agent is not managed by Smart Agent.
ApplicationThe application on which the corresponding agent is running.
TierThe service running on the corresponding application.
NodeThe service instance of the service running on the application.
Monitoring StatusThe value is enabled if monitoring is enabled for the corresponding agent. The value is disabled if the monitoring is disabled for the corresponding agent.
All Monitoring DisabledDeactivate monitoring for the associated application.

Actions

Action MenuDescription
View Node DashboardTo view the Nodes > Tier dashboard of the required node. You can click the checkbox next to the specific agent, then click View Node Dashboard.
Filters

To filter based on your requirement. Click Filters > Add Criteria.

You can use Filters to add different filter criteria based on your requirement. For example, to see all Java Agents that have outdated versions:

  1. Click Filters > Add Criteria > .
  2. Select Agent Type.
  3. Select Java Agent from the drop down.
  4. Click Done.
  5. Click Add Criteria to add another criteria for versions.
  6. Select Version Status.
  7. Click the Version Status dropdown, and then select Out of Date.
  8. If you just want to have a quick view of the list, click Apply. You can close this to not use this criteria. However, if you click Done, the criteria is used for filtering the list.
View Options

To configure the columns that you want to view on the page. Based on your requirement, you can select or deselect any number of columns from the View options menu.

Enable Monitoring

To activate the selected agents. Select the required agents, then click Enable.

The Monitoring Status displays as Enabled.

Disable Monitoring

To deactivate the selected agents. Select the required agents, then click Disable.

The Monitoring Status displays as Disabled.

ConfigureTo configure the node properties of the selected agent. Select the agent, then click Configure.
Upgrade

To upgrade the selected agents. Select the required agents, then click Upgrade.

DeleteTo delete the selected agents. Select the agents that you want to delete, then click Delete.
ResetResetting the Agent is a way to force the agent to register itself with the Controller in the same way it does at JVM/CLR startup, but without restarting the JVM/CLR.In the case of JVMs, if the agent is monitoring Collections using the Automatic Leak Detection or Custom Memory Structure feature, then resetting it will clear out these monitored Collections. The JVM will need to be restarted in order to start monitoring them again.
Actions

To perform the following actions:

  • Select applications to bulk enable
  • Select applications to bulk disable
  • Select applications to bulk reset
  • Rollback to previous version
  • Export grid data
Export Grid DataTo export the grid data in CSV format. It provides details of all the available app agents. Click Export Grid Data.

Machine Agents

Inventory

Version Status

Displays the version status of the agents on which the application is running.

Actions

You can select the required Network Visibility Agent and perform the following actions:

You can use Filters to add different filter criteria based on your requirement.

View OptionsTo configure the columns that you want to view on the page. Based on your requirement, you can select or deselect any number of columns from the View options menu.
Enable MonitoringTo enable monitoring for the selected agents, select the required agents, then click Enable.
Disable MonitoringTo deactivate monitoring for the selected agents, select the required agents, then click Disable.

UpgradeTo upgrade the selected agents, select the required agents, then click Upgrade.

ApplicationThe number of applications using the corresponding Smart Agent.
Deployed Agents

The number of deployed agents (app server agents or Machine Agents)

Active

The active status of Smart Agent. If the Smart Agent is running, the value is true. If Smart Agent is not active, this displays the time when it was last active. For example, if you terminate the Smart Agent, after 15 minutes the value is displayed as Active 15 min ago.

Actions

Action MenuDescription
DetailsTo view the application summary on which the selected Smart Agent is installed. The summary includes application names along with the number of deployed agents. You can click the checkbox next to a specific smart agent, then click Details.
Filters

To filter based on your requirement. Click Filters > Add Criteria.

You can use Filters to add different filter criteria based on your requirement. You can also add filters based on tags.

View Options

To configure the columns that you want to view on the page. Based on your requirement, you can select or deselect any number of columns from the View options menu. If you have enabled the tags feature, you can view and select the tags to add as column on the page, which helps you to filter the list using the custom tags. To enable tags, see Tags.

Upgrade

To upgrade the selected smart agents. Select the required smart agents, then click Upgrade. This feature is currently disabled by default. Contact your customer support to get more details.

Export Grid DataTo export the grid data in CSV format, click Export Grid Data. It provides the details of all the available machine agents.

Tags

The tags feature is supported when you install supported agents using Smart Agent. You can use tags to filter the list on Machine Agents, App Server Agents, Smart Agents, andDatabase Agents.

You are required to perform the following to enable and view tags under View Options or Filters > Add Criteria for the supported agents in the Agent Management UI:

  1. Enable tags.
    To use the tags feature, you can ask your customer support to set the entity.tagging.enabled account level property to true in the Administration Console. By default, this property is disabled. For details, see Enable Custom Tagging.
  2. Update the Smart Agent config.ini.
    Add the tags under the common config section in the config.ini file.
    This is a sample configuration where we have added tags owner and location:

  3. Start Smart Agent.
    To restart the Smart Agent run the following command:
    sudo systemctl restart smartagent
  4. View tags.
    Navigate to View options to view the tags as a column or use the tag within the filter.

Database Agents

Inventory

Version Status

Displays the version status of the agent on which the application is running.

AvailabilityIndicates if the Database Agent is active or inactive.
Up TimeAmount of time that the Database Agent is running without any issues.
Smart Agent ID

The ID of the Smart Agent that manages the corresponding Database Agent.

If the value is not displayed, then Smart Agent is not installed.

Unique Host IDThe unique ID of the host on which the Database Agent is running.
ManagedThe value is Yes if the Smart Agent is installed and No if the Smart Agent is not installed.

Actions

Filters

View Options

Upgrade

To upgrade the selected Database Agents. Select the required agents, then click Upgrade.

Add CollectorSelect the Database Agent for which you want to create a database collector, then click Add Collector.
RestartSelect the agent(s) that you want to restart, then click Restart.
Actions

Rollback to the previous version.

Analytics Agents

Note: You cannot install, upgrade, or rollback Analytics Agents from the Agent Management UI because Smart Agent does not support this agent.
Name Description
Name The name of the Analytics Agent that was specified during installation.
Unique Host ID The unique ID of the host machine on which Analytics Agent is installed.
Version The current version of the Analytics Agent.
Last Connected The date and time when the agent was last connected to the Controller.
Log Pipeline Health The health status of the Log Analytics pipeline.
Transaction Pipeline Health The health status of Transaction Analytics pipeline.

To view the Analytics Agent summary, you can double click the required Analytics Agent or select the agent, then click Details.

You can filter the details based on name and health of the pipelines.

Network Visibility Agents

Inventory

NameDescription
Unique Host IDThe unique ID of the host machine on which Network Visibility Agent is installed.
HostnameThe hostname of the machine on which the Network Visibility Agent is installed.
Application(s)The application(s) on which the corresponding Network Visibility Agent is installed.
Agent VersionThe current version of the Network Visibility Agent.
OS NameThe name of the Operating System on which the application is installed.
OS VersionThe version of the Operating system on which the application is installed.
Dynamic Monitoring Mode

The values can be any of the following:

  • KPI – Network KPI metrics for all monitored objects (application flows, tiers, nodes, and network links) except individual connections.
  • Diagnostic – Network KPI metrics for all monitored objects, including connections.
  • Advanced – All network metrics for all monitored objects, including connections.
EnabledThe Enabled icon represents that the agent is enabled.

Actions

You can select the required Network Visibility Agent and perform the following actions:

Pcap Configuration

To configure the packet capture for the selected agent.

Change DMMSelect the agent(s) for which you require to change the Dynamic Monitoring Mode.
Start PcapSelect the agent(s) on which you require to start the packet capture.
Enable MonitoringSelect the agent(s) that you want to enable for monitoring, then select Enable.
Disable MonitoringSelect the agent(s) that you want to disable for monitoring, then select Disable.
DeleteSelect the agent(s) that you want to delete, then select Delete.

Cluster Agents

Note: You cannot install, upgrade, or rollback Cluster Agents from the Agent Management UI because Smart Agent does not support this agent.

Kubernetes VersionThe Kubernetes Version on which the Cluster Agent is running.
