Access a call graph

Learn about the different ways that you can access a call graph in Splunk APM.

Use the Trace Analyzer to access a call graph

Learn how to use the Trace Analyzer to access a call graph in Splunk APM.

Complete the following steps to access a call graph from the Trace Analyzer.
  1. From the Splunk Observability Cloud main menu, select APM.
  2. Select Traces, then select Switch to Trace Analyzer.
  3. In the table of traces, traces with one or more associated call graphs are marked by a blue icon next to the Trace ID. Select the blue icon to navigate to the trace waterfall view, which displays the list of spans. Spans with an associated call graph are marked by a Call graph icon.
  4. Navigate to the call graph using one of the following methods:
    • Select the Call graph icon on a span.
    • Select a span row that has a Call graph icon. In the displayed panel, select Call graph.

Use the service view to access a call graph

Learn how to use the service view to access a call graph in Splunk APM.

Complete the following steps to access a call graph from the service view.
  1. Navigate to the service view.
  2. Select Traces.
  3. Select a trace using one of the following methods:
    • Under Traces with errors and Long traces, traces with one or more associated call graphs are marked by a blue icon next to the time stamp. Select the blue icon to navigate to the trace waterfall view, which displays the list of spans and their associated call graphs.
    • Select the Service requests and errors chart to view Related Traces. In the table of traces, traces with one or more associated call graphs are marked by a blue icon next to the Trace ID. Select the blue icon to navigate to the trace waterfall view, which displays the list of spans. Spans with an associated call graph are marked by a Call graph icon.
  4. Navigate to the call graph using one of the following methods:
    • Select the Call graph icon on a span.
    • Select a span row that has a Call graph icon. In the displayed panel, select Call graph.
