Correlate traces to track business transactions
Learn how to correlate logically-related traces with business transactions in Splunk Observability Cloud.
A business transaction is a set of related traces that track a transaction or user flow of particular interest. You can configure business transaction rules to group logically-related traces by services or global tags, or monitor performance indicators on transactions with dashboards and alerts.
After you configure business transaction rules, you can use the business transaction view to monitor the performance of business operations and troubleshoot issues with the services in your application environment that deliver your business operations.
What can I do with business transactions?
You can use business transactions to:
Track slow or erroneous business transactions with detectors.
Gauge user experience by monitoring backend performance.
Triage issues and estimate business impact based on affected business transactions.
Optimize and resolve bottlenecks related to important business transactions.
The business transaction view can help you answer questions such as:
Is my business transaction performing as expected, or is there an atypical amount of errors or high latency?
What services are involved in my business transaction?
How does the performance of individual services contribute to the overall performance of the business transaction?
How can I directly access traces and call graphs related to my business transaction?
