Create user segments

Categorize users into segments based on specific behavior or criteria in order to perform more targeted analyses in Splunk Digital Experience Analytics.

User segmentation in Digital Experience Analytics

User segments in Digital Experience Analytics (DEA) enable organizations to create distinct user groups based on specific criteria, such as attributes (user's device type, location), behaviors, or custom tags. Create user segments to perform targeted analyses, such as evaluating conversion funnels for specific user segments, to generate deeper insights and actionable recommendations.

Use cases for user segmentation

  • Receive granular insights into specific processes, such as finding onboarding friction for new users.
  • Tailor user experiences to improve product marketing strategies.
  • Analyze and group similar customer profiles across multiple analyses without redundant setup.

Create a new user segment

Follow these steps to create a new user segment in DEA:
  1. From the Overview page, select the User Segments tab.

  2. Select New User Segment.

  3. In the Definition column, set the criteria for the users to be included in the segment. You can define users based on the following criteria:
    • User attributes
    • Session attributes

    • User actions (similar to events actions, see Events in Digital Experience Analytics)

    • Another referenced user segment (note: circular references are not permitted)

  4. View the Users section to see real-time data of all the users that match your definition criteria.

  5. Confirm your definition settings are correct and select Save.
